Whoa - scout the sodium on this recipe equally it's written. I used 1 lb dry black beans instead of four cans, which seems about the right amount and cuts the sodium exponentially. It turned out very well, both the flavor and thickness/texture - this one's a keeper.

This is one of the only soups I've fabricated that I actually looked frontward to eating, due to its heartiness (I've only made "thin" veggie soups prior). This is a groovy recipe! I used 3 carrots instead of 2 and no celery because I didn't have any. I used i pocketbook of fresh black beans which I cooked instead of canned. The chili powder and cumin Brand this recipe I recall, it adds a delicious Mexican flavor. I will definitely be making this once again, thanks!

When I went to the pantry for ingredients, I institute only low-sodium chicken broth, not vegetable goop. I also substituted frozen corn, as I don't care for the flavor or texture of canned. I drained and rinsed the black beans to reduce the sodium content. Otherwise, I followed the recipe exactly with seasoning amounts, etc. My husband loved it. He likes the Six Can Tortilla Soup (with a few alterations) from this site amend, simply it was nevertheless a thumbs up from a guy raised on meat and potatoes. I served with a garnish of sliced green onions and warm corn muffins. Yum!

Yum!!! Smashing recipe and and then easy!! :) I used ii cans of beans instead of 4 for the whole recipe, same amount of celery, onion and carrots.. I browned them so added 2 cups of water, the beans, corn and some veggie soup stock.. And then mashed the remaining can of beans with the tomato plant and added information technology in... I used a tbsp of each chili and cumin and it was dandy!! My family enjoyed it very much.. Volition be making this again and over again....

Excellent soup! Much better than some restaurants' versions. I had to make some substitutes (a tin of lycopersicon esculentum puree and water for the whole tomatoes, a tin of peas for the corn, and chopped bell pepper instead of celery) but it however tasted delicious. I served information technology with an experimental vegan cornbread, which turned out to be absolutely delicious. I'm submitting it to all recipes as "Quick and Easy Vegan Cornbread".
01/22/2011
Actually liked this! Super easy -- I threw everything in the crock pot. It was the perfect dinner to come up home to on a cold dark. My vegan daughter sprinkled corn fries on hers, and ate two big bowls. Thanks for the recipe.

EXCELLENT! My wife loves black edible bean soup and I made this and information technology is the best she'south had anywhere. I did get with 1 TBS chili powder and 1/2 TBS cumin and a compression of cayenne. I'd increment the cayenne adjacent time for a bit more than estrus. I used canned vegetable stock which is just fine. I wound up adding approximately 2-3 cans (4-6 cups). Just add to your desired consistency. Don't even endeavour to puree the tomato/edible bean mix in your blender---go with your processor. I rinsed all the black beans but dumped the corn in undrained. This soup is highly recommended and a meal in itself!

Simply fabricated this for dinner this night. Delicious. I doubled the carrots and celery information technology chosen for. I noticed some reviews said information technology was too salty, then I made certain to bleed and rinse all the canned ingredients and added salt to taste at the finish. I had near 8oz of firm tofu sitting in my refrigerator so I cubed information technology upwardly and threw it in. When I served the soup I sprinkled a teaspoon of Nutritional Yeast on top. Nutritional Yeast gives the soup a slap-up cheesy flavor and is swell for vegans because it gives y'all B12 which is commonly found in beast sources!!
04/26/2003
This is very practiced! I ran out of chili powder, so used a bit less than ane tblsp. so too went a chip less on the cumin in an attempt to maintain the rest of flavors. Consequently I thought it needed a bit more spice, but my hubby thought information technology was spicy enough. We will definitely be eating this again (likely with a bit more than spice). Weight Watchers--4 points per cup is the way information technology worked out for me.
01/20/2006
I am eating this soup as we speak, and I actually like it. I was kind of scared, simply it turned out nifty. The flavor is good. I used organic vegatable broth, used 3 cans of beans instead of four, and didn't have whatever cumin. I hold with some posts that it has a beany taste to information technology, and tin can't taste the tomatoes, but it'southward fixable for next time, I may add together two cans of beans and 2 of tomatoes. It looked and so expert earlier I composite the beans and tomatoes, so I call back information technology would work even without blending them, if you like mesomorphic. All in all, it'due south a quick, hot, satisfying soup, especially on this snowy, wintery dark! Thanks for sharing! I'k going for seconds right now!

It is good but I do watch my sodium intake and so I never purchase prepared foods. I take a stock pot going at all times so I exercise not have to buy stock. I make my own beans from scratch, too. All is piece of cake if i just makes the fourth dimension for it and that is easy if i is prepared. I am a vegan because food is my medicine and if I'chiliad ownership prepared foods I'm defeating that purpose. I am 80 years quondam, an artist and have a total-time task. I had to change my ways when I developed cardiac vascular disease. Yes, I used to eat everthing out of a tin can and I brought four children up that way. I hadn't fifty-fifty heard of vegetarians fifty years agone. I started watching what I ate nearly thirty years ago and even and so I didn't know what a vegan was. One can learn. These recipes are good. Just do your ain matter while following the directions.

Kickoff time making this recipe so I halved the ingredients merely in case it wasn't a large hit as many reviewers posted. I adapted the spices to our tastes, left out celery since it'south been banned from our business firm, and added some of the tomato to the soup before blending the can (to give some more than texture). The soup is good, only non amazing. Maybe some different chilies/peppers would put information technology above the residuum. Still, needed quite a scrap of tweaking, so three stars for the recipe as is. I served it with polenta wedges which were a good compliment.
02/14/2011
Best. Soup. Ever. The simply thing I practice differently from the recipe is substitute cooked rice for the corn. It makes a complete protein (rice and beans) and a satisfying meal with a salad and crusty bread.
12/31/2003
I made this last night and it was wonderfull (even my picky, meat eating hubby loved it). I just used 1 tablespoon of chili powder, 3 cans of broth and two cans of black beans (I didn't bleed the beans or the corn). Then in the blender I mixed a tin of pinto beans and half of a 28 ounce can of crushed tomatoes. Not wanting to waste nutrient, I threw the rest of the tomatoes in to the soup. It tasted great with a big chunk of dark bread. Does make a LOT of soup though, might want to halve the recipe next time.
04/05/2002
This recipe is Wonderful and my kids like it too. I crunch upwardly tortilla chips to put on top and it'south extra yummy. Delicious soup!!!
04/03/2011
This is a tasty hearty soup without the calories, makes a lot, and freezes well. The recipe says to saute the onion, celery, carrots and garlic for v minutes and then cook for xv min. My chopped carrots needed more than time to melt. Side by side time I will chop all the vegetables smaller to cook in this time frame. I besides had to add together quite a bit of pepper. Cheers for the recipe.
04/09/2011
Very colorful soup! I only used two cans of black beans and did non carp to puree / blend annihilation. I also added in some kale, which provided some great texture to the soup. It was dainty and chunky! Next time, I would serve with a dollop of yogurt.
06/09/2011
Excellent hearty soup! 1st time I made it I thought it need some zing to it so I added 2 tsp of hot pepper sauce. 2nd time I made it I added 1Tbs of lime juice & 3 tsp hot sauce. Freeze very well, and I always take some on manus in the freezer.
02/08/2011
Cracking recipe equally is. I left out the corn.Added cooked cubed chicken chest, and fresh kale the last three minutes(to retain crispness). Served due west/garlic toast. Very filling and tasty.

1/viii/2012: I did NOT make this every bit listed, so this review is only for myself. I used 2 tsp of oil, sauted the ane/2 onion, 2 stalks celery, i clove garlic and 2 carrots along with 1/iv tsp cumin and i/2 tsp oregano up for at least 5 min; added ane can low sodium chicken goop and i/2 tin can water, 2 cans blackness beans (I was no sodium). Bring to eddy, simmer for 20 min. puree at least ane/ii and mix back into the pot. February 2016: made with spices as listed, half a large onion, 1 stalk celery, 2 Carrots, ane carton chicken stock, 3 cans black beans and forgot the love apple - still tasty! Blended half. Very forgiving recipe.
11/04/2012
Delicious! I had to do some changes because I did not have corn, cumin or celery. However, it came out keen! Ane of my new favorites.
08/26/2006
This is a great base of operations recipe. I've since inverse it by starting with just over a pound of dried beans, adding an extra onion, 1 more celery stem, a whole head of garlic, Tony Chachere'south every bit a sub for blackness pepper, beefiness broth for the vegetable, dropped the corn and added a fresh hot republic of chile (or 2) and a 7 oz. tin of chopped light-green chiles. For the meat loving husband, I have added turkey kielbasa at the end. My husband and son (5) LOVE this and they volition even consume leftovers. Believe me when I say it'south skillful, because they never like to do that!

This is now a monthly staple in our abode. We have vi members in our family. Half are vegetarian and half are not. This is heaven sent every bit information technology satisfies everyone and at that place are plenty of leftovers for dad's lunch. My but modification is that I add a tin of green chilies to spice up the flavor a bit. We are not vegan so I height with shredded cheese and sour cream. I likewise top with tortilla strips. I cut white corn tortillas into thin strips, fry til crispy and then season with Lawry's. So simple but so proficient. They really compliment this wonderful recipe.
01/21/2012
Excellent soup, both my husband and I loved it and the leftovers the next 24-hour interval were even amend. I left out the corn and added a second tin can of diced tomatoes, used chicken broth instead of vegtable goop. This 1 is a keeper. I made this a 2nd time with the corn and vegetable broth. The corn but didn't seem to be cooked well enough in the twenty minutes...and then add more than simmer time. I make my own broth, but still like the chicken broth flavor better. Topped with some avocados...yum yum!
03/26/2011
I used more garlic, upped the carrot amount some, and added fresh cilantro simply earlier serving, only otherwise stuck pretty close the the recipe. It turned out well and paired nicely with a loaf of Ciabatta bread.
11/29/2012
I am a black bean soup junkie. This is past far all-time I've e'er tasted and ever fabricated. I am also a crockpot junkie. I did not modify any ingredients simply I did modify the cooking method to accommodate a wearisome cooker. First, I sautéed all of the veggies in a skillet with the olive oil and chili powder. I put this into the bottom of the crockpot get-go. Then I added the wet ingredients, beans and other spices. Stirring occasionally, I set it for 8 hours on depression. Since I am the primary vegan eater in the firm I like to cook in bulk so I can eat for a week without worrying near what to cook for myself. This recipe was fed me lunch and some dinners for a week. I did not get tired of eating it. The all-time matter I liked nigh this recipe was that the soup was non too thick or too sparse. I like the thickness of the broth that I usually can but find in canned black edible bean soup. In other recipes the goop is too thin. In the words of Goldilocks "this is just right." Thanks for sharing this recipe! The only other black bean soup I can compare this to is Panera'due south blackness bean soup. I thought this recipe was by far the superior.
04/02/2012
Gearing ourselves to a healthier eating lifestyle. Found this recipe while googling. Fabulous!!! My husband and son (both meat and taters men) loved it. You may need to tweak the recipe a footling. I used dried beans and added table salt to taste to cutting downward on the sodium. Next fourth dimension gonna endeavor frozen corn. Should requite it a fresher gustation. Served with cornbread on the side. Corking pairing. Looking forward to trying other vegan recipes.
07/20/2011
I made this (with the vegan corn muffins) as an appitizer for an all vegan mex themed meal. Information technology was way better than the main dish. I made a few changes. I use diced tomatoes, my grocer doesn't carry the right size cans of crushed, I rinsed the 2 cans of beans that got pured to lower the sodium and upped the ammount of spice forth with a few extras (cayenne pepper, crushed red pepper). (The non-vegans) topped the bowls off with some chedder, finishing touch, yum!
10/22/2002
This recipe is fabulous. I had a taste for blackness bean soup merely didn't want to spend a lot of fourth dimension nor have to do a lot of grocery shopping on my way home. This was elementary and super delicious. I did use the iii cups of broth rather than the 4 called for in the recipe every bit suggested past one of the raters.
01/xvi/2011
This would have been 5 stars had information technology had some spiciness to it. I added a tin can of mild Ro-Tel which did the trick. I also used 1 lb. of black beans and the water in which I had cooked them along with 1 large vegetable burgoo cube. I would make this again.
12/14/2005
I idea this was only "okay". It needed more flavour in my opinion, maybe more garlic or some spicy peppers. I added nearly a tablespoon of Thai chili sauce and more chili pulverization and it still wasn't spicy plenty. It made a ton of soup, so if I ever arrive once again I would halve the recipe. I probably won't make information technology again, though.
02/08/2011
adept, piece of cake, first time making blackness bean soup and it was full filling
01/22/2002
Great soup! Perfect with cornbread.
01/02/2011
The initial depict of this recipe was ease and inexpensiveness--and it WAS both easy and cheap. Plus, for beingness so easy and easy on the pocketbook, very tasty. As others have mentioned, the sodium in the canned goods can be a business concern, so I used low/no table salt canned goods only and added no salt (at present I can just imagine that all that additional salt would make it practically inedible). I also didn't accept a can of corn and then used a no-salt added tin can of mixed veggies instead. Finally, because I hope to share information technology with vegetarian friends, I used vegetable broth instead of craven broth.
05/28/2002
This was wonderful! Everyone in my family really liked information technology. I added 2 tsp salt to this and I added a cup of dark-brown rice. Fabricated it a little thicker and then we served information technology on flour tortillas as burritoes. It was really cracking! Thanks and so much for this recipe :)
10/xviii/2011
We made this while in Spain and therefore didn't have any chili powder! But, even before seasoning it had excellent flavour. We did brand some changes: Nosotros used 2 cans of pinto beans and 2 cans of kidney beans, doubled the garlic, added anaheim and bell pepper, used a little tabasco to make upward for the chili powder and garnished with cilantro (home-grown, cause you can't find that hither either!). The boyfriend said that if he could get his face in the bowl he would lick it clean. :)
08/xi/2010
Crawly! Absolutely Awesome! We ate 2quarts of information technology the beginning Night, and there are only two of us! I utilize a irksome cooker - merely doing the onion, garlic, and carrots in the skillet in oil commencement and then tossing the rest in the crock. Information technology comes out sooooo yummy! Nosotros add salt - it's the only matter I think is missing. I cut the chili powder just a flake, because we don't really like much seize with teeth (yes we're wimpy) but fifty-fifty where we fabricated the changes, were just personal preference type stuff - this recipes is 99%perfect as is - but I Really think information technology Needs table salt - outset at 1tsp and work up to gustation
12/07/2011
delicious, quick and like shooting fish in a barrel if yous're not looking for too much effort because it uses mostly canned food - i used chicken broth, omitted celery and added cayenne pepper, shrimp and white rice - yummy.
12/14/2011
LOVE LOVE LOVE. To watch the sodium content I RINSE all my can veggies and beans. Also I prefer adding FRESH corn. Only even my carnivore boyfriend likes this soup. It so rocks!!!
06/x/2003
This recipe is wonderful, and very healthy, as well! I added extra garlic and onion, because they're so salubrious. Having the beans and the corn both in this soup is swell, because it provides you with a complete poly peptide. I sprinkled a lilliputian chip of cheddar on superlative, and added a i/2 tablespoon of sour cream to mine, and it was Great.
12/09/2005
Sorry, but I really didn't like this ane. I followed the recipe exactly, but it was way too "beany." The spices were unexceptional, almost bland, and I couldn't taste the tomatoes or anything else but bean. The recipe made a ton, and I threw well-nigh all of it away. Two stars for health and convenience, though.
07/23/2012
Large hit at an extended family dinner - nosotros had a vegan guest and nosotros wanted her to experience welcome. Information technology is delicious, with just plenty oomph to brand information technology interesting. Highly recommended - a hearty mode to get your protein and veggies!
12/13/2010
Delicious! I serve it with a french baguette and the meal is complete! the merely thing I modify is the amount of broth. I utilise 3 cups instead of four, for a really thick soup.
01/22/2011
Outstanding--healthy, hearty, and full of flavor. The corn adds a overnice textural chemical element besides. I served this equally a main class with French bread and babe arugula and it was a hit. I recommend using reduced-sodium or no-salt-added beans and corn and correcting seasoning simply at the very end.
01/25/2011
Really good with a dollop of lowfat patently yogurt, some chopped green onions and cilantro to garnish.
01/26/2002
this is a corking soup. the leftovers were no problem because it tastes good fifty-fifty a couple days later. highly recommended.
eleven/01/2005
This was good but I remember I was expecting something more from all the good reviews. Overall, easy to brand and tasted fine, but it wasn't special enough to brand once more.
04/28/2003
Call the fire dept! Did you Actually mean 2 TABLEspoons of chili pulverization???? If you use caution with the chili pulverization ( to your taste of course) This recipie has great potential.
12/01/2006
I am a vegetarian and this recipe has long been one of my favorites. I ordinarily make it in the tiresome cooker and find it's just as good that style. This is a great common cold-weather recipe.
04/21/2008
I just finished making this dish and I'm eating it now. This really is a practiced bowl of soup. The fact that it has a lot of vegetables in it makes me happy. This smells so very much like chili but has a very smoothen texture forth with some of the crunch from the corn. Over all a spectacular soup. Will definitely make again.
08/11/2006
instead of using canned blackness beans, i used dry out beans and simmered it for most iii hours. this soup was PHENOMINAL :) i of my new favorites.
12/19/2008
I changed some things around. I soaked i/2lb of dry black beans, didn't have whatsoever celery, and added frozen corn instead. I also added some greenish chillies. It came out prissy and thick after cooking for 1 1/2 hours. Good soup.
03/04/2012
Great base recipe. I did brand some adjustments to what I had on paw. I used garlic broth instead of vegetable, two cans of black beans with jalapeno and pureed two cans of pinto beans since I was out of blackness beans. Since I had seasoned black beans I left out the other spices except for a lilliputian cumin. Information technology was one of the all-time soups I have e'er had!
04/12/2003
This is a very tasty soup and will definitely brand it again but with only one Tablespoon chili pulverization as it is quite spicy. I tuckered the beans and corn but not sure if this is necessary equally the soup is quite thick.
01/21/2011
A expert hearty soup. I doubled the recipe and it called for i/4 cup of chili pulverization. Fashion TOO MUCH! I'll brand information technology once again and gradually add together the chili powder to taste.
06/14/2003
I liked this simply with 1 can less beans.
03/09/2002
My roommates loved this soup! 1 quote: "This soup has so many layers of flavors - information technology's excellent." One comment though, if y'all're reheating a bowl the side by side day, exist certain to make information technology nice and hot. For some reason, the leftover soup tastes bland when it'due south only slightly warmed upwardly.
12/29/2002
Absolutely delicious! although please annotation when they say 1 stem of celery i think they hateful only 1 rib! i used ii ribs and information technology was more than enough. the corn added a flake of sweetness which i wouldn't utilize side by side fourth dimension. the soup is a quick black bean soup recipe that tastes similar it took forever! will definitely make this once more!
03/05/2011
very delicious. I added red bong pepper.
12/26/2006
i've never had black bean soup and never fabricated it, and then I didn't know what to expect. This recipe is so easy and wonderful tasting. A new favorite!
03/14/2012
I think this is a great base recipe, only ane I'll take to amend slightly in the future. My issue is with the corporeality of spices. Don't go me wrong, I dearest some chili pulverisation and cumin as much every bit the next person, but I institute it a scrap overpowering. It was very hard to taste whatever individual ingredients! Adjacent time I recollect I'll halve (at least) the powdered spices and opt for some finely minced habanero or jalapeno instead. Or, and call me crazy here, a little common salt? Granted, I used dried beans as opposed to canned, so I avoided that sodium, but I was still rather surprised to see a soup without any common salt at all. Hence the over-reliance on powdered spices for flavoring. I remember it would be but equally effective to get a piddling chip of the spice flavor in there while still accentuating the natural flavor of the beans, onion, corn, and tomatoes. Simply my ii cents.
10/17/2008
Added a splash of lime juice and hot pepper sauce for more than season since I institute this soup bland. It is an okay soup but not swell.
04/28/2008
I was trying to utilise up some things, and then didn't follow recipe exactly, but kept near of the measurements proportionate to original. I concluded up playing around with it a flake until it was to my liking -- a splash of malt vinegar, a pinch of cilantro and oregano, a teaspoon or two of chinese mustard -- and then crunched upwardly tortilla chips for the topping. Information technology was delicious! Hearty! Wonderful! Thanks for the ideas!
10/06/2011
DELICIOUS! I took the suggestion of one of the reviews and used a pound of dry black beans instead of the canned beans to cut downwards on the table salt. I didn't puree whatsoever of the beans either. This was such a simple recipe, I was shocked by how tasty information technology was.
03/07/2003
I make Friday night dinner every week for family consisting of vegetarians and non-vegetarians. This recipe passed the examination with both groups. I idea there would be too much cumin and chili powder. Somehow all of the spices seem to combine wonderfully and nosotros did non find it too spicy. Thanks, Christine, we will make it once again!
07/30/2005
This is probably the all-time soup I have ever fabricated! I brand it oftentimes, and it'south perfect for my vegan and non-vegan family members and friends!
03/02/2011
Used the recipe exactly as listed. Perfect consistency. Topped with fresh tomatoes and cornbread. My southern hubby thought it was delicious. My picky son at it up.
01/19/2011
This was amazing! I had never made black bean soup, and information technology was extremely easy. I didn't accept whatsoever celery and so made it without. Also, considering I have small-scale children, I cut down on the chili powder (ane/ii). Everyone (except for my picky three year former who eats nothing but tomato pie and pb&j) devoured it!! Wonderful recipe!!
03/01/2007
Mine turned out to be virtually like a vegetarian chili, that'due south what it reminded us of. Information technology was delicious eaten with tortilla chips. I simply pureed one of the cans of beans, and tuckered and rinsed the other three. I also used low sodium craven broth instead of veggie broth. Thank you for a delicious recipe.
10/29/2011
Yum. Practiced leftovers.
12/05/2001
This was quick and tasted groovy. Perfect for a wintertime night. It made much more than than I expected.
12/09/2002
This is such a great recipe. The broth is and then hearty and tasty. I fabricated this for a party and everyone LOVED it. I highly recommend information technology!!
02/06/2002
I have made this recipe twice in the last month. I am on Weight Watchers Maintenance and find this soup delicious every bit well every bit filling. My husband fifty-fifty enjoys it!
03/15/2014
I doubled the recipe, thinking that vi servings wasn't plenty for 5 adults and 2 kids....nosotros will exist eating soup for days to come! Merely that'due south okay, because it was delicious! I had to add together table salt, maybe because I used depression sodium broth, but my guests did not.
07/23/2012
This 1 is a keeper. I tuckered and rinsed the beans, and it came out perfect!
12/xiv/2005
This was VERY good. I am not a vegan so I added some cheddar cheese on elevation. It was so delicious all the manner through! I will make this again many times.
12/28/2002
I liked it better than my hubby did. Information technology makes quite a flake and then I froze a couple of containers. I used 3 cans of vegetable broth which was more than the four cups listed in the recipe. I simply didn't want to throw away half of the broth in a can & didn't take another recipe I was going to brand soon with vegetable broth. I thought it still had a rich taste. It took me a while to blend the 2 cans of beans & tomatoes in my blender as the mixture was quite thick. I had to stop the blender several times to stir the mixture with a wooden spoon & go some of the blended role up from the bottom earlier I got it to a smoother consistency. Oh, besides the chopping & blending, the most piece of work was in recycling 9 cans :)!
06/09/2013
i simply needed something quick and hot to make ... i did a lot of subbing and adjustments of flavours according to what i had on hand, and didn't puree, and the consequence was lovely. i think this is a really great, forgiving recipe.
01/18/2011
Dear the recipe!
01/08/2011
GREAT soup!! I wasn't 100% sure if I was to drain the beans or corn because it never said to or not. And then I drained the corn and 2 cans of beans that went into the processor.Information technology was fine. Not to watery. LOVE this and volition brand it once again presently!!
01/09/2004
This soup is delicious and full of flavor! Information technology is my new favorite soup! I used chicken goop instead of vegetable goop. Fabled!
12/04/2002
This soup is awesome! The best black bean soup that I take ever had!!! Thanks so much for posting this.
12/31/2001
My husband made this for me for dinner this night and information technology was excellent! It wasn't too spicy - perfect! It made a lot of soup. We had information technology with corn chips and french breadstuff. My twenty month old didn't like it, but I didn't expect her to anyway. Thanks for this fantabulous recipe.
04/sixteen/2007
Very yummy! I used a mixture of white/red kidney beans and black beans. I also added a lot more cumin and chili powder than the recipe called for. Will definitely make again.
02/09/2012
I skipped the blackness edible bean puree and substituted two cans of diced tomatoes in its place. Very succulent and merely the right amount of beans; not too overpowering.
12/03/2011
Perfect merely the way it is. I employ frozen corn instead of canned.
09/20/2004
This is hearty and very tasty, plus healthful for y'all, likewise! Information technology had just the right corporeality of spice and zip for my taste. I'm so glad I tried it! Hither are my minor changes/additions: Instead of canned corn, I used 3/four's of a bag of frozen shoe peg corn (I just threw information technology in, frozen) As well, because I love lots of "stuff" in my soup, I added an extra chopped carrot, one xiv-1/two oz can of Mexican style stewed tomatoes, breaking the tomatoes in half into the soup so there'd be chunks of tomatoes, and two cups of cooked brown rice. Shortly later adding the rice, the rice plumped upwardly even more, unfortunately, soaking upwards some of the soup broth. Next time, I will add but i cup of cooked dark-brown rice, so as not to absorb so much of the broth. Finally, I also added ane/2 tsp of dried cilantro.
06/26/2010
We loved this soup. Even my nephew who does little cooking asked for the recipe. I soaked black beans (total of 8 cups soaked ), blended just ii cups instead of iv cups, and used i 28 oz can of crushed tomatoes, because that was all I had. Nosotros loved this and will make over again. Perfect for our low fat and low cholesterol family. Cheers for sharing!
01/18/2012
Actually good! I used stale beans (so much cheaper hither!) and at the last minute realized I lost my tin can opener (?!?) so had to leave out the corn & tomatoes. It was nevertheless fantastic. The seasoning needs a bit of tweaking it's a very mild soup. I retrieve spicy would be better.

This is great! It really is more similar a chili; information technology's very hearty. I used a minor nutrient chopper to blend the beans, and information technology worked fine. I don't like celery very much so I used zuchini (sp?) which turned out very tasty.

I used frozen corn and stale beans to reduce the salt and keep it "fresher." I found the soup to have a similar taste to chili. It was good and filling, just I won't be scrambling to make another pot.

I really liked this recipe. Looking at the recipe, it seemed a little banal, so I added a scrap of smoked paprika and oregano and increased the other spices. It was then yummy with some sour foam and toasted tortilla triangles. However my boyfriend was not so enthused :(
